Want to stop procrastinating?
"Uh-huh, I Would Do That Later." Is that you? Have problems with procrastinating and not doing the needful at the right time? Here's what to do about it!
The Oxford dictionary defines procrastination as the act of postponing, delaying or putting off, especially habitually or intentionally.
At one time or the other, we fall victim to procrastination.
A general outlook reveals two reasons: * Laziness and perfectionism.
Laziness.
This is the unwillingness to do something you are expected to do. You know you should do something, but you choose to procrastinate and loaf around. Before you know it, time is far spent!
Perfectionism.
This is a reluctance to settle for anything less than perfection. Procrastination comes in when you feel a certain period isn't the best time to do something(even while you are expected to do it). You want a perfect or near-perfect result and you keep postponing and end up doing nothing!
“If you wait for perfect conditions, you might never get anything done.”
Make judicious use of the resources you have now. "It's not by what you have, it's what you do with what you have that makes the difference."
Procrastination is not inevitable, as It can be avoided. You can stop procrastinating today.
Frequently, we don't feel motivated to do the things required of us. However, the good news is: It can be brought to the barest minimum.
Here are some tips to help reduce procrastination.
• Set your priorities right: It means placing the most important tasks before the less important ones. Have a to-do list to avoid derailing.
You should list your goals a night before or early in the morning, this would help combat perfectionism as you would do the right thing at the required time. Research has proven this helps your subconscious mind familiar with the tasks on the list so you figure out how to accomplish them. Writing the list before you go to sleep would also help manage your time.
• Do not snooze!
Occasionally, that motivation you need is in you. Get up immediately your alarm rings. Be intentional, be disciplined! All you need is a little push? Be that little push!
• Build a productive environment, and maintain it: Keep your distance from people and things you know would distract you. Be friends with people who would always push you to do the right thing, to do more.
• Do not overwork your brain: Stress affects the brain's productivity as well as it does; the body.
Rest when required, stop wasting time on irrelevant gossips, effortless scrolling on the internet. Challenge every hindrance. Set deadlines for your goals, procrastination is dead already!
Summary.
• You can stop procrastinating today, you just have to be intentional about it.
• If you wait for the perfect time, you might never get anything done.
• Stress affects your brain's productivity and general performance. Find time to rest.
• Perfection might set it while journeying; just get started.
